Inspired by the life's work of snowflake photographer Wilson Bentley and crafted by world-renowned crystal designer Peter Yenawine, Bentley Crystal & Quicksilver proudly offers the Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley Collection.
For the first time ever the intricate detail and beauty of actual snowflakes have been captured in brilliant full lead crystal. This annual collection of four elegant handcrafted crystals truly showcases Bentley's lifelong passion, which revealed to the world "No two snowflakes are alike." All crystals are based on original photos taken by Wilson Bentley, the first man to ever photograph a single snowflake. For over fifty years Wilson A. Bentley (1865-1931), a Vermont farmer, pursued his passion for the wonders of snow. Through his microphotography he revealed to the world the grandeur and mystery of the snowflake. In particular, his work showed that each snowflake has a universal hexagon shape and led to the remarkable discovery that "No Two Snowflakes Are Alike"--the famous phrase that Bentley coined and which is a metaphor for the individuality of every person. Yenawine has been commissioned by the past six White House administrations to create numerous gifts of state. Only his artistry and expertise could surmount the obstacles presented by translating a snowflake into the medium of crystal. While director of design for the Franklin Mint, Yenawine worked intimately with Philippe and Jacques Cousteau on a commission for the Cousteau Society, to create a remarkable four-part crystal sculpture mirroring the water planet of Jacques Cousteau. Each crystal in the Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley Collection comes in a beautiful hexagonal box to reflect that each and every snowflake has six points. Within the box is enclosed a Descriptive Brochure detailing Bentley's life and the craftsmanship of Peter Yenawine. Also included is a Certificate of Authenticity that shows the original snowflake photograph taken by Mr. Bentley approximately 100 years ago. Each crystal snowflake $32.00 |
